At least 19 people, including women and children, have been injured in an attack by an unidentified wild and aggressive animal in Dara-e-Suf Payin District of Samangan Province.
The Taliban governor’s office in Samangan said the incident took place on Tuesday night in the villages of Qara Jangal and Oymatan Shomali in Dara-e-Suf Payin District. According to officials, the attacking animal was captured and later killed.
According to Taliban officials, all those injured were transferred to hospitals for medical treatment, and their health conditions are being monitored.
Local residents say that, in addition to attacking people, the wild animal also injured several dogs in nearby villages. Images obtained from the scene show that the animal appears to resemble a wolf or a fox; however, its exact species has not yet been identified.
Reports indicate that some of the victims, particularly children, suffered serious injuries to their faces and other parts of their bodies.
The incident comes as residents of Afghanistan’s mountainous and rural areas periodically face similar attacks by wild animals. Such incidents often occur due to changes in wildlife habitats, the increasing proximity of wild animals to human settlements, or because of diseased animals.
