Local sources in Nangarhar say a young man who had returned to Afghanistan from Belgium was killed by unidentified armed assailants.
A source said the young man, identified as Taj Ahmadzadeh, was shot dead at around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday night (29 Asad) near his home at Marston Square, in the seventh district of Jalalabad, the provincial capital of Nangarhar.
The source added that Ahmadzadeh was killed by gunfire, and that the perpetrators and motive behind the killing remain unknown.
According to the source, the young man had returned to Afghanistan from Belgium about a month ago.
Local Taliban officials in Nangarhar have not commented on the incident.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of having established nationwide security, mysterious killings continue to occur. In most cases, the perpetrators and motives remain unknown or are not made public.
