Summary

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) says that one U.S. service member was killed and another was injured during operations in northern Iraq.

In a statement, CENTCOM said the incident occurred while U.S. forces were neutralizing unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) through a controlled detonation.

According to the U.S. Central Command, the injured service member sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical treatment.

CENTCOM also said that, following extensive searches at the site of Iran’s attack in Jordan on 16 July, U.S. forces recovered the remains of an unidentified individual. Investigations are ongoing to determine the identity of the remains.

U.S. officials had previously stated that two American service members were killed and another remained missing in Iran’s attack on Jordan. CENTCOM said it would not release further details regarding the killed and missing personnel until the notification process for their families has been completed.
