Summary

Clashes between Taliban forces and forces affiliated with Juma Khan Fateh, a dissident Taliban commander, are continuing in Nusay district of Badakhshan province.

Local sources say that five Taliban fighters have so far been killed, 16 others wounded, and five more remain missing in the fighting.

According to the sources, Fateh’s forces have captured two Taliban outposts in the Dawabi and Sarkoh areas, while fighting is currently ongoing in the Dolwakh area. Shuryan, Joy Dara, Shakh Dara, and large parts of the rural areas of Nusay are also reportedly under the control of Fateh’s forces. However, the Taliban continue to control the district center.

Sources add that the Taliban have also taken control of the district clinic and restricted the movement of local residents. Taliban helicopters and drones are reportedly conducting patrols over the area, while telecommunications and internet services have been disrupted in some parts of the district.

The Taliban have not yet officially commented on the clashes. The fighting began on Tuesday afternoon and intensified before noon on Wednesday.
