Summary

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has said that Islamabad has only one expectation from the Taliban: that they should not allow Afghan territory to be used for terrorist activities against Pakistan.

Dar made these remarks during a meeting of the Asian regional forum. He claimed that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) are using Afghan soil to carry out attacks against Pakistan, describing the situation as a serious security threat to the region.

Pakistan’s foreign minister said that if the Taliban fulfill their commitments and prevent Afghan territory from being used against neighboring countries, significant opportunities would emerge for trade, regional connectivity, and economic development in South and Central Asia.

He also called on the Taliban and other regional actors not to allow Afghan territory to be used for insecurity and terrorism against any country. Indirectly, he urged members of the Asian regional forum to support Pakistan’s position against armed groups.

The Taliban have previously rejected similar allegations from Pakistan and have maintained that the issue of Pakistani militant groups is an internal matter for Islamabad.
