A new Afghan exile media outlet, Elum News, has announced the launch of its operations, stating that its core objectives are to provide accurate, reliable, and balanced information, support freedom of expression, uphold professional journalistic standards, respect human rights, and promote public awareness.
In a statement, the outlet said that its news, reports, and analyses will be produced and published in accordance with the principles of professional journalism, accuracy, and impartiality. It added that Elum News aims to cover major developments and issues in Afghanistan, the region, and around the world, delivering information to its audience free from bias and prejudice.
The statement emphasized that access to information is a fundamental pillar of transparency, accountability, and social progress. Accordingly, amplifying the voices of the people and safeguarding the public interest will form a central part of the outlet’s editorial policy.
Mina Khan Doran, the head of Elam News, said the outlet is currently operating in a trial phase and is expected to officially launch its regular broadcasts in the near future.
The announcement comes at a time when restrictions on media activities in Afghanistan have intensified following the Taliban’s return to power. Numerous journalists and media organizations have faced increasing pressure and restrictions. According to reports by international organizations, freedom of expression and civic space in the country have also been significantly curtailed during this period.
