Summary

Former Afghan lawmaker Fawzia Koofi has condemned Pakistan’s recent airstrikes in Afghanistan and the resulting civilian casualties, stating that the bombing of villages and the killing of innocent people are unjustifiable.

In a post published on X on Tuesday, Koofi said she has yet to see any evidence that Pakistan’s airstrikes have targeted senior Taliban leaders. She argued that killing civilians not only fails to resolve the problem but also victimizes innocent people who had already borne the heavy burden of war and violence during the former Afghan republic.

Koofi added that Afghans are currently facing severe economic and social hardships under Taliban rule and are struggling to survive with extremely limited resources.

Addressing the presence of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), she said that if the objective of the airstrikes is to target members of the group, many people in Afghanistan are aware of the areas where they operate. Bombing civilian and residential areas, she argued, is not a solution to the problem.

She stressed that bombing villages and killing civilians who have endured years of conflict and suffering is neither justifiable nor an effective strategy for combating terrorism. She further emphasized that civilians should never be forced to pay the price for political and military failures.
