The Afghanistan freedom front has claimed that it engaged in a nearly half-hour-long clash with the Taliban in Zebak district of Badakhshan province on Sunday night.
According to the group, the fighting began at around 9 p.m. on August 30, and the Taliban were forced to withdraw from the area following a counterattack by the Freedom Front’s commando forces.
The Freedom Front claimed that two Taliban members were wounded in the clash and were transferred to the Zebak district hospital for treatment. Local sources also confirmed that a confrontation had taken place between the Taliban and the Freedom Front.
The Taliban have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, the circumstances of the clash, or any possible casualties.
The Freedom Front has previously reported several clashes with the Taliban in Badakhshan, particularly in Zebak district. In an incident last week, the group claimed to have inflicted casualties on the Taliban in Zebak; however, the Taliban and independent sources did not confirm the figures.
