Taliban leader Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada has once again emphasized obedience and unity as essential to preserving the group’s regime, urging his followers not to defy his orders.
Akhundzada made the remarks while addressing personnel under his command at a ceremony held at Kandahar Military Airfield to mark the fifth anniversary of the Taliban’s return to power.
He said that preserving the Taliban regime is a “religious obligation” for its members and stressed that obedience is a fundamental requirement for maintaining the system.
He told his followers: “Do not disobey your emir. If you do not uphold obedience and justice, all of this will disappear.”
The Taliban leader also claimed that if the people are granted their “Sharia-based rights,” no one would stand against the Taliban regime.
Akhundzada has previously called on Taliban officials and forces to obey his directives in his speeches. However, in recent months, reports have emerged of internal divisions within the Taliban and of some senior officials defying his instructions.
In his speech, he also addressed the presence of foreign forces led by the United States, saying that, in his view, the “occupiers” had been defeated by the Taliban.
