The Taliban-controlled High Commission for Addressing Migrant Affairs has stated that on Saturday (27 Saratan), 829 Afghan migrant families, comprising a total of 4,415 individuals, returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan.
According to information provided by the commission, the returning migrants entered the country through the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar, the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar, the Islam Qala crossing in Herat, and the Pul-e-Abreshum crossing in Nimroz.
The report indicates that, among the total returning families, 712 families entered through Torkham, 73 families through Spin Boldak, 41 families through Pul-e-Abreshum, and three families through Islam Qala.
The commission stated that the necessary initial assistance was also provided to the returning families.
This comes as Pakistan has once again accelerated the process of deporting Afghan migrants since July 10. According to United Nations figures, nearly 6,200 Afghans were forcibly returned from Pakistan to Afghanistan within just seven days up to July 11.
Reports indicate that Pakistan has returned approximately 2.3 million Afghans to Afghanistan since the beginning of 2023. According to UN data, more than one million Afghans are still living in Pakistan.
Pakistan says its policy of expelling undocumented foreign nationals was implemented following increased security concerns and a rise in militant attacks. Islamabad claims that some militants operate from Afghan territory, an allegation that the Taliban government has consistently denied.
