Ismail Mayel, the former head of the National Radio and Television of Afghanistan during the republic, has condemned Pakistan’s recent military strikes on Afghan territory, saying that part of the root cause of the current situation in Afghanistan lies in the Taliban’s policies.
In a post on his Facebook page, Mayel wrote that the Taliban bear responsibility both for the 20-year war and for the problems Afghanistan is currently facing. According to him, the Taliban, because of Osama bin Laden, exposed Afghanistan to the threat of international attacks, and their actions have now brought the country into another conflict.
Referring to the 20-year war, he said that during this period, large numbers of Afghans were killed as a result of Taliban attacks, mine explosions, and targeted assassinations, while civilian infrastructure was also damaged.
Mayel claimed that during the republic, the governments of Hamid Karzai and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani made efforts to achieve peace, but the Taliban were unwilling to accept their proposals. He said that as a result of the agreement between the Taliban and the United States, the Taliban came to power, limiting Afghans’ opportunity to determine their own political future.
According to him, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan five years ago, but since then, millions of Afghans have been forced to leave the country, restrictions on the lives of women and men have increased, and economic difficulties have further worsened the situation of the people.
At the same time, Mayel strongly condemned Pakistan’s recent attacks on Afghan territory and the killing of civilians, describing them as inhumane and unlawful acts.
He stressed that Pakistan has no right to kill Afghans and said that the Taliban should not conceal responsibility for the consequences of their policies behind patriotic slogans.
