The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, has said that U.S. President Donald Trump continues to allow diplomacy time to resolve ongoing issues, but that his patience will not last indefinitely.
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Waltz stated that if Iran threatens international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States will target Iranian military installations that, according to him, are used for “illegal control” of this international waterway.
He warned that if Tehran believes Washington will remain unresponsive to threats against global shipping or potential attacks on U.S. military bases, it would be a “serious mistake.”
Waltz added that the United States is prepared, if necessary, to destroy Iranian military infrastructure used to threaten international maritime routes.
He also said that technical talks between Washington and Tehran are ongoing and that Trump is seeking to resolve issues through diplomacy, but emphasized that the U.S. president’s patience is limited.
According to him, “all options remain on the table” for the United States, and the primary objective is to ensure that Iran never obtains nuclear weapons.
