Coinciding with October 17, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Taliban officials say they have programs in place to reduce poverty in Afghanistan.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, said on Saturday that economic growth, reducing unemployment, and eradicating poverty are among the priorities of their government.
Mujahid added that decades of war and regional developments have created challenges to strengthening Afghanistan’s economy.
Meanwhile, some Afghan citizens say that the lack of employment opportunities and the inability to meet basic living needs are among the serious challenges they face.
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed annually on October 17. The day aims to raise global awareness about the fight against poverty and the need to support people in need.
