Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Yasmin Praes D’Simaaz, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)’s Director General of Operations, discussed the challenges facing returning migrants, healthcare services, and humanitarian needs during a meeting.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 4 Sunbula, the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the meeting also focused on addressing the problems and outstanding needs resulting from past conflicts.
According to the statement, Muttaqi said that some of the problems and needs of victims of previous periods remain unresolved and require serious attention.
The two sides emphasized the continuation and expansion of the ICRC’s humanitarian assistance in various areas and also discussed expanding healthcare cooperation.
The meeting comes amid growing concerns over the situation of returnees and displaced families in Afghanistan, as the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan has increased and pressure on undocumented Afghans has intensified.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s healthcare sector is also facing a shortage of skilled professionals due to the impact of past conflicts and the migration of healthcare specialists.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said both sides pledged to continue their joint efforts in various humanitarian areas.
