Pakistan’s ministry of information has confirmed that the country carried out airstrikes on areas in Afghanistan, claiming that 22 “terrorists” were killed and large quantities of weapons and ammunition were destroyed in “precise and targeted” strikes on two hideouts.
In a statement issued on Thursday morning, September 30, the ministry said the strikes were conducted as part of the ongoing military operation known as “Ghazab lil-Haq” and were based on intelligence. According to the ministry, hideouts belonging to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and a group it referred to as “Fitna al-Hindustan” were targeted at two locations inside Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, confirmed that Pakistan had carried out the airstrikes but said that nine civilians, including women and children, were killed and 11 others wounded in the attacks in Kunar and Helmand provinces. He said residential areas in the Shaltan and Chawkay districts of Kunar and the Garmser district of Helmand were targeted.
