The Taliban’s Public Security Directorate in Herat province has announced that following the overturning of a passenger bus in Adraskan district, 2 people were killed and 51 others were injured.
According to a statement from the directorate, a 404-model passenger bus overturned on the Herat–Kabul highway on the evening of Thursday, 17th of Sawr.
Reports indicate that the vehicle first veered off the road and then overturned. Taliban authorities cited “driver negligence” as the cause of the accident.
The injured were transferred to medical centers for treatment, but no further details about their condition have been released.
Last year, the Taliban announced that they had installed GPS systems on passenger buses to reduce traffic accidents on the country’s highways and monitor vehicle movements precisely.
Nevertheless, deadly traffic accidents continue on Afghanistan’s roads, with high speed, driver negligence, and poor road conditions cited as the main causes in many cases.
