Sami Sadat, a former commander of the Afghan National Army and head of the “United Front of Afghanistan,” says that 184 former military personnel have been documented as having been killed in the three months since the Taliban returned to power.
In a post on X on Tuesday (30 Saratan), Sami Sadat wrote: “In just the past three months, we have documented 184 cases of killings of former military personnel, many of whom were also subjected to horrific torture.”
He added that the risk of former Afghan security forces being killed increases when they are deported to Afghanistan from Iran and Turkey.
He said that “those responsible for the killings, torture, and other abuses” against former military personnel must be held accountable under the law.
The former Afghan army commander said that “no regime can secure its future through fear and brutality.”
He shared images of former military personnel and addressed “those who still sympathize with the Taliban,” saying: “Look at these faces and ask yourselves: What if one of them was your father, mother, brother, sister, son, or daughter?”
So far, no official and comprehensive figures are available on the number of former Afghan army, police, and intelligence personnel killed since the Taliban came to power. However, the United Nations and human rights organizations have reported the continuation of acts of retaliation by the Taliban.
The Taliban claim that they are committed to the general amnesty announced by their leader and deny involvement in the killings of former security personnel. However, nearly five years later, reports of arrests, suspicious killings, and disappearances of former military members continue to emerge every week from various parts of Afghanistan.
