Informed sources say that a delegation comprising several former Afghan government officials and former members of parliament has traveled to Islamabad to meet and hold discussions with Pakistani military and security officials. According to these sources, the members of the delegation arrived in the Pakistani capital on Wednesday.
Sources confirmed on Thursday, 15 Asad, that the delegation is scheduled to meet and discuss issues with several senior Pakistani military and security officials during its visit. No official details regarding the agenda of these meetings have been released so far.
According to information provided by the sources, members of the delegation include Nisar Ahmad Faizi Ghoryani, former Minister of Industry and Commerce; Mohammad Almas Zahid, former head of the Internal Affairs Commission of the Wolesi Jirga; Mohammad Iqbal Safi, former Kapisa representative in parliament; Mohammad Alam Saei, former Takhar representative and former governor of Jawzjan; Abdul Rauf Ebrahimi, former Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga; and Elias Ghoryani.
The sources said the main objective of the visit is to hold consultations with Pakistani officials regarding the situation in Afghanistan, relations with the Taliban, and groups opposed to the Taliban. However, none of the parties involved has so far made an official statement regarding the content of the discussions.
A source also claimed that the delegation’s meetings included discussions on the activities and coordination of groups opposing the Taliban, with improving cooperation among these groups being one of the main topics. According to the source, participants also exchanged views on threats posed by groups such as ISIS, al-Qaeda, and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The source further stated that two American citizens were also present at the meetings, but their identities, roles, and possible positions remain unclear. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not issued any official comment on the meetings by the time this report was published.
