Local sources told media outlets that Taliban forces have visited several hospitals in Herat in an effort to detain protesters and individuals injured during the recent demonstrations.
According to these sources, the Taliban have also arrested a number of protesters. However, no precise figures regarding the number of detainees have been released, and further details about their condition and whereabouts remain unavailable.
Local sources added that the Taliban have reinforced security measures in Herat by deploying additional forces to the Jebrail area of the city. They said the heavy presence of security personnel has created a highly securitized and militarized atmosphere throughout the area.
On Tuesday, Taliban forces opened fire on demonstrators during a public protest in Herat’s Jebrail district. Witnesses and local sources reported that the incident left several people injured.
According to information provided by local sources, Tuesday’s protests were sparked by a wave of arrests of women carried out by the Taliban. The sources said Taliban forces fired shots in an attempt to disperse the protesters and subsequently brought the demonstrations to an end.
Taliban officials have not yet issued any official statement regarding these reports or the recent developments in Herat.
