Abdul Qadir Ghafoori, the Taliban-appointed district governor for Kuz Yiftal district in Badakhshan, has claimed that armed groups opposed to the Taliban are operating with Pakistan’s support.
Ghafoori said at a public gathering that the opposition groups are aligning themselves with a country they previously regarded as their enemy in an effort to seize power.
His remarks come amid reports of increased armed activity by the Freedom Front and the Homeland Soldiers against the Taliban in Badakhshan.
Meanwhile, the United Front, led by Sami Sadat, has also announced the launch of its armed attacks in Badakhshan. The Taliban have so far released no further details about the activities of these groups.
