The Taliban ministry of defense’s inspector general, Mufti Latifullah Hakimi, referring to the recent activities of armed opposition fronts against the group, has said that the ongoing “disturbances” must be prevented or “rectified.”
Hakimi made the remarks on Thursday, 22 Asad, during a graduation ceremony at the Faculty of Medicine of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He said that a meeting had been held to discuss the recent activities of the Taliban’s opponents in Afghanistan.
He added: “We held a meeting today. The Emirate must not allow these small-scale disturbances to continue, in any form. They must either be neutralized or rectified.”
According to his remarks, the Taliban leadership should not allow the activities of opposition groups and armed individuals to continue.
Although Hakimi did not specifically name any particular front or group, his comments come amid ongoing clashes in Badakhshan between Jumakhon Fateh, a disgruntled Taliban commander, and forces of the group. Previous reports have also indicated disagreements between Jumakhon Fateh and the Taliban’s central leadership.
Meanwhile, reports have emerged in recent days of activities and attacks by armed opposition fronts against the Taliban. Against this backdrop, the Inspector General of the Taliban Ministry of Defense’s reference to “small-scale disturbances” is being viewed as a response to the group’s recent security challenges.
