Three local sources have confirmed that Taliban intelligence in Badakhshan Province has arrested its former district-level commander, “Jumah Khan Fatah.” According to the sources, he was one of the influential commanders in the region, but the reason for his arrest has not yet been disclosed.
The sources said on Tuesday, 30 June, that Jumah previously served within the Taliban armed forces, but was removed from his position a few months ago.
According to the sources, he was arrested on Saturday, 7 June , but no further details have been provided regarding his current condition or fate.
In recent months, tensions in Badakhshan have increased between local Taliban commanders and the group’s central leadership over issues such as appointments, control of mines, and security restrictions.
The arrest comes as the Taliban leadership is reportedly attempting to manage internal disputes in Badakhshan through a special committee tasked with reviewing the disagreements.
Earlier reports have also indicated the dismissal, arrest, and removal of several local Taliban commanders and officials in Badakhshan due to disputes over appointments, mining control, and leadership policies.
