Several local sources have reported that the Taliban tightened security measures around the residence of former Afghan President Hamid Karzai this morning and barred individuals who had come to meet him from entering the house.
According to the sources, the Taliban took the measure without prior coordination with Hamid Karzai’s office. Neither Karzai nor the Taliban has so far issued an official statement regarding the reason for the incident.
Reports about the situation at Karzai’s residence come amid his recent comments on the current situation in Afghanistan, girls’ education, and other issues.
In a message marking the anniversary of the death of Burhanuddin Rabbani, the former Afghan president and former chairman of the High Peace Council, which was published on 29 Sonbola, Karzai described Rabbani as a “prominent religious scholar and jihadist leader” and said that he had worked for Afghanistan’s unity and peace.
Karzai has also repeatedly called for the reopening of schools and universities to girls.
Today, Karzai also congratulated an Afghan female cyclist on winning a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games and expressed his wishes for her continued success.
This comes as the Taliban have kept secondary schools and universities closed to girls in Afghanistan and imposed various restrictions on women and girls, including restrictions on participation in sports.
