In Gaza, thousands of cancer patients who lack access to essential medicines and specialized healthcare services are waiting to be evacuated outside the territory for treatment. According to health officials, around 11,000 cancer patients in Gaza are deprived of specialized care, while nearly 4,000 require urgent medical evacuation for treatment abroad.
Amid the extensive damage to Gaza’s healthcare system, facilities for diagnosing and treating cancer have also been severely restricted. The territory’s only specialized cancer hospital has also ceased operations, leaving patients facing serious difficulties in accessing chemotherapy and other essential treatments.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 11,000 patients had been evacuated from Gaza for medical treatment by February 2026. However, more than 18,500 people still require medical care that cannot be provided within Gaza.
The evacuation of patients has been hampered by restrictions on movement through the Rafah crossing and security assessments. Health officials warn that delays in treatment are further worsening the condition of cancer patients.
