A video received by media on Tuesday shows a child injured in the leg during public protests in the Jebrail area of Herat.
In the footage, several young men can be seen attempting to transport the injured child to a hospital for medical treatment. No precise information has yet been released regarding the child’s condition.
On Tuesday, a number of Herat residents took to the streets and staged a protest against what they described as the “arbitrary detention of women” and the Taliban’s “mandatory hijab policy.”
Eyewitnesses say that during gunfire by Taliban forces directed at the protesters, at least one person was killed and several others were injured. However, these figures have not yet been independently verified.
Local sources also reported that the Taliban detained 30 protesters. No details have so far been released regarding the condition or whereabouts of those detainees, and the Taliban authorities have not issued any official comment on the matter.
