Summary

A private radio station named Sah Radio officially began operations and broadcasting in Khost Province on Monday, June 15. The inauguration ceremony was attended by several local Taliban officials.

Speaking at the launch event, Mohammad Ayoub Yad, one of the station’s managers, said that Sah Radio was established to highlight public concerns, raise awareness, and contribute to shaping the perspectives of young people. He emphasized that the station would strive to provide citizens with the information they need across a range of sectors.

According to Yad, Sah Radio will broadcast 18 hours of programming daily on the FM band. Its content will cover religious, political, social, cultural, scientific, entertainment, and health-related topics.

Meanwhile, Subhanullah Azzam, Director of Information at the Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture in Khost, stated during the ceremony that local Taliban authorities would support media organizations. He added that such support would continue in various forms, including administrative and moral assistance.

Azzam also noted that since the Taliban’s return to power, six private radio stations have commenced operations in Khost Province and are currently broadcasting via FM frequencies.

The launch of Sah Radio comes amid ongoing concerns over restrictions imposed on media outlets and journalists in Afghanistan. In recent years, numerous reports have highlighted limitations on press freedom, while media organizations and free speech advocates have repeatedly expressed concern about the challenges facing independent journalism in the country.

Despite these challenges, local media outlets continue to operate and play an important role in disseminating information, promoting public awareness, and reflecting the concerns and needs of citizens across different regions of Afghanistan.
