Summary

In a meeting held in Peshawar between a Taliban consul and Pakistani officials, it was decided that approximately 1,600 Pakistani cargo trucks, which had been prevented from operating for nearly eight months, would be allowed to cross the Afghanistan Pakistan border.

According to the agreement, a daily schedule has also been established. From 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., these Pakistani trucks will be permitted to pass through the Torkham border crossing into Pakistan. In addition, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., cargo trucks carrying Afghan returnees will be allowed to travel from Pakistan into Afghanistan.

Pakistani media outlets have published photographs of the meeting; however, they have not clarified whether, in return, Afghanistan’s blocked commercial transport routes will also be reopened for cross-border movement.

This development is considered significant, as official trade between the Taliban administration and Pakistan had been largely suspended for nearly eight months. The agreement is widely viewed as a positive step toward improving relations between the two sides.
