Former Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has expressed his condolences to the families affected by the recent deadly floods in Nuristan Province, extending his sympathies to those who lost loved ones and suffered significant financial losses.
In a statement, Mr. Ghani described the disaster as one of Afghanistan’s most devastating tragedies since the earthquake in Kunar Province. He also called on all Afghans to support the families impacted by the floods.
According to reports, severe flooding has destroyed numerous buildings in several areas, including Parun, the capital of Nuristan Province. So far, authorities have confirmed 23 fatalities, nearly 80 people have been injured, and more than 100 individuals are reportedly still missing.
Meanwhile, a number of Afghans living abroad have launched an online fundraising campaign to assist those affected by the floods in Nuristan.
Ahmadullah Archiwal, one of the campaign’s organizers, said the initiative was launched out of a sense of national and moral responsibility. He urged Afghans around the world to contribute and support the families impacted by the disaster.
