Ismail Baqaei, the spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the seizure of two tankers linked to Iran by the United States as a form of “piracy and armed robbery in international waters.”
Baqaei wrote on the social media platform X on Monday night, April 27, that he considers this action an example of the blatant legalization of piracy and armed robbery in international waters.
He also added, “Welcome back, pirates, with the difference that now they operate with government permits, sail under official flags, and call their looting ‘law enforcement.’”
Meanwhile, both U.S. and Iranian military officials have confirmed the seizure of commercial ships, an issue that comes amid ongoing tensions between the two sides over the Strait of Hormuz.
