The European Parliament has announced that a petition titled “Recognition of Gender Apartheid in Afghanistan and Designation of the Taliban as a Terrorist Organization” has been referred to its Petitions Committee. This committee is responsible for the initial review of requests and determining the appropriate procedure for their handling.
According to an official letter, the case has been sent to the Petitions Committee, and after the necessary reviews, the final decision will be communicated in writing. The letter also emphasized that due to the high volume of petitions received, the review process may take some time.
The letter was addressed to Baktash Siawash, former member of the Afghan House of Representatives. It stated that the petition under the mentioned title has been officially registered in the European Parliament system and is proceeding through its administrative stages.
The European Parliament also explained that registered petitions become public documents, but at the same time, they are subject to data protection regulations and are handled and managed in accordance with these laws.
