Local sources in Badakhshan say that following the surrender of Juma Khan Fateh and a number of his close associates to the Taliban, his remaining forces have fled to the mountainous areas of Nusay District.
According to these sources, forces affiliated with Fateh are currently in an uncertain situation in Nusay, while the Taliban are simultaneously preparing to launch an operation in the district.
Earlier, sources had reported that Juma Khan Fateh, along with a number of his close associates, had surrendered to Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Taliban’s Chief of Army Staff. The Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture in Badakhshan had also announced that “the recent tensions in Badakhshan have come to an end.”
Some Taliban-affiliated media outlets have also reported that Fateh has surrendered. However, according to sources, following the incident, his remaining forces fled to mountainous areas amid fears of arrest or retaliation.
Sources say the Taliban have deployed their forces across various parts of Nusay District and have established checkpoints along the routes leading into and out of the district.
According to the sources, the Taliban are preparing to conduct house-to-house searches, seize weapons, and arrest individuals affiliated with Juma Khan Fateh.
The sources have also expressed concern over the situation of civilians, saying that the presence of Taliban forces, particularly those referred to as “Kandahari” forces, has heightened anxiety and fear among local residents.
They warn that if the Taliban operation escalates, there is a risk of clashes with local residents and the emergence of a humanitarian crisis in the area.
