Local sources also reported that a gathering of Taliban forces at Kunduz airfield was targeted in a rocket attack. According to these sources, the attack took place late Thursday night while Taliban fighters were preparing to be transported by helicopter to Badakhshan province.
Sources said the forces were scheduled to be deployed to support Taliban operations in Zebak district of Badakhshan. However, no further details have been released regarding the extent of the damage or possible casualties resulting from the attack.
Taliban officials have not yet responded to these claims, and no official source has confirmed or denied the occurrence or consequences of the attack.
Badakhshan province has witnessed an increase in clashes between the Taliban and armed opposition groups in recent days. Forces from the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the Taliban have been engaged in fighting in Zebak district over the past several days.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Taliban have deployed additional forces to Zebak district to reinforce their positions and are preparing to continue operations against armed opposition groups.
