Sheikh Abdul Samie Ghaznawi has strongly criticized the game of cricket, describing it as a legacy of the British and a tool of colonialism.
Ghaznawi has also criticized Afghanistan’s national cricket team, saying that Afghans should not take pride in cricket. He has also used specific terms of his own choosing to refer to cricket players.
Ghaznawi’s remarks come at a time when cricket enjoys widespread public support in Afghanistan, and the achievements of the national team are regarded by many Afghans as a source of joy and national pride.
According to reports, during the previous war, Sheikh Abdul Samie Ghaznawi was also involved in overseeing the movement of fuel tankers along the Kabul–Kandahar highway in the provinces of Maidan Wardak and Ghazni.
