Summary

Ali Askari, Director General of Khorramshahr Ports and Maritime Administration, announced the commencement of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exports to Afghanistan and Pakistan through multimodal transportation. According to him, this initiative marks an important step toward expanding export routes and strengthening the position of Khorramshahr Port within Iran’s logistics network.

According to a report by Mehr News Agency on Saturday, June 13, the first multimodal shipment of LPG to Afghanistan and Pakistan was successfully completed. The cargo was dispatched from Khorramshahr Port to target markets in the two neighboring countries.

Multimodal transportation refers to a shipping method that combines multiple modes of transport such as ships, railways, and trucks under a single contract. This approach can facilitate cargo movement and improve efficiency across the supply chain.

Following the closure of several border crossings with Pakistan, the Taliban administration has sought to increase the volume of imports from Iran. In this context, trade relations between the two countries have experienced steady growth in recent years.

Estimates indicate that the annual trade volume between Afghanistan and Iran has reached approximately $4 billion. A significant share of this trade consists of Iranian exports to Afghanistan.

Petrochemical products, LPG, kerosene, food products, construction materials, and consumer goods are among Iran’s key exports to Afghanistan. These commodities account for a substantial portion of the economic exchanges between the two countries.
