Summary

The Israeli military says it has eliminated Adham Ibrahim Shaaban Nisman, a Hamas commander who was involved in the October 7, 2023 attack and in holding Israeli hostages.

In a statement released by the Israeli military, it said that Adham Ibrahim was killed on Saturday (18th July ) inside Gaza City, in cooperation with Israel’s Shin Bet security agency.

The Israeli military stated that Nisman had served in recent years as a “Nukhba Battalion commander” and was responsible for commanding and directing an assault from the Gaza City Brigade into Israeli territory during the October 7 attack.

The statement added that Nisman was also involved during the war in the detention and holding of a large number of Israeli hostages in Hamas captivity.

Israel says that, in nearly three years of war in Gaza, it has eliminated the majority of Hamas’s leadership and senior operational commanders. However, Hamas continues to maintain a presence and carry out activities in Gaza. The disarmament of Hamas and the dissolution of the emergency committee it established to govern Gaza were among the terms of the Cairo peace agreement. However, this week, Khalil al-Hayya was elected as the group’s new leader, indicating that Hamas has plans to continue its operations and rebuild.
