U.S. house speaker Mike Johnson said he expects the war with Iran to enter a new phase soon and that U.S. allies will also help bring the conflict to an end.
Speaking to Fox News on Sunday, Johnson said, “I think we’re going to enter a new phase very soon, and we’re going to finish this.”
He added that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons has been a key objective of every U.S. administration over the past 50 years. He claimed that Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and said the United States must ensure that the country does not gain access to nuclear weapons.
According to Johnson, the administration of Donald Trump has achieved its objective of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
He also addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, saying that oil shipments through the strait are still continuing. However, he stressed that the United States cannot trust Iranian officials during negotiations.
The House Speaker’s remarks come as military tensions between Washington and Tehran, as well as concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, continue to persist.
