Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, has met with Jamshed Khodjaev, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, and his accompanying delegation to discuss the expansion of economic cooperation between the two sides.
Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban’s Deputy Spokesperson, said in a statement issued on Sunday, 4 Asad (July 26), that the two sides discussed expanding economic, trade, investment, and transit cooperation during the meeting.
According to the statement, Mullah Baradar described the development and stability of relations between the Taliban and Uzbekistan as important not only for the economic interests of both sides but also for regional stability.
He said that the Taliban is ready to use existing capacities to strengthen and expand relations with Uzbekistan in various sectors.
The Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs also emphasized the need for better implementation of the “Joint Action Plan,” saying that the initiative could contribute to economic growth for both sides.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed removing obstacles to the movement of vehicles carrying Afghan export goods to Uzbekistan, facilitating trade, developing transit infrastructure, cooperation in the energy sector, and creating opportunities for the export of Afghanistan’s agricultural products, food items, and minerals to regional markets.
