Andrei Belousov, the Russian Defense Minister, has stated that the unstable situation in Afghanistan continues to be one of the main sources of terrorist threats and transnational crimes in the region.
Belousov made these remarks during a meeting of the defense ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries in Bishkek, noting that the meeting is taking place in a context of severe international instability.
He emphasized that Afghanistan’s security developments remain a significant issue for the countries in the region and require collective attention.
The Russian Defense Minister also pointed out the movements of some countries outside the region seeking to establish a military presence in Central Asia, stating that Moscow considers such actions unacceptable.
According to him, Russia is closely monitoring these activities.
