Shehzad Aryobi, the former Minister of Communications and Information Technology, has stated that if the goal is to ensure security, security and technical systems should be strengthened instead of imposing a ban on smartphones.
Aryobi added that banning smartphones not only fails to resolve security issues but also harms Afghanistan’s digitalization process. According to him, such decisions deprive people of access to many online services, e-government services, education, and modern forms of communication.
He emphasized that in today’s world, restricting technology leads to regression rather than progress and negatively impacts the development of information technology.
These remarks come at a time when the Taliban government has restricted the use of smartphones and mobile phones with cameras for its civilian, military, and judicial employees.
