Local sources in Badakhshan Province say that Faridullah Wahdat, the commander of a Taliban border outpost unit, was killed during clashes with forces opposed to the group. According to these sources, the fighting began on Thursday evening in Zebak District and was still ongoing at the time of publication.
Taliban officials have so far made no statement regarding the clashes or reports of the commander’s death. However, local sources have released an image they claim shows the body of Faridullah Wahdat.
According to information provided by the sources, the fighting began in the Topkhana area of Zebak District, near the border with Pakistan. They said anti-Taliban forces launched an attack on Taliban positions, and the battle continued for several hours. After a brief pause, the clashes resumed.
Local sources say the exact number of casualties remains unclear, but the Taliban suffered losses in the fighting. No official casualty figures have been released so far by independent sources or Taliban authorities.
The sources said that, unlike previous sporadic clashes, this time the two sides have engaged in direct confrontations along multiple fronts, and exchanges of fire are continuing. Both sides have also deployed additional forces to the front lines to reinforce their positions.
The identity of the group responsible for the attack has not yet been officially confirmed. However, local sources say anti-Taliban forces are present in the mountainous areas of Zebak District, and clashes are continuing across several fronts.
