Summary

The Swiss Foreign Ministry has announced that the scheduled negotiations between Iran and the United States, which were due to be held today (Friday, 29 Jowza) at the Burgenstock lakeside resort in central Switzerland, have been postponed.

The ministry added that Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks, and that preparatory work for hosting them in Burgenstock is still ongoing.

It further stated that it is currently unable to provide additional information on the matter.

This announcement comes following the cancellation of a planned trip by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Switzerland for negotiations with Iran.

A memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States was expected to be signed in person today in Switzerland, after which negotiations on its implementation were to begin.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had already signed the agreement electronically on Wednesday.

It is still unclear why the Iran–U.S. talks in Switzerland have been postponed, but Reuters reports that Iran, after the agreement was signed by the two presidents, considered an in-person signing to be “unnecessary.”
