Sharafat Zaman, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health, said that in Kunduz province, 35 tons of substandard and expired medicines and food items have been destroyed.
He wrote on the social media platform X that these medicines and food items had been collected over the past eight months by the regulatory teams of the Kunduz Provincial Public Health Directorate from wholesale and retail stores as well as city warehouses.
According to Sharafat Zaman, these items were below health standards and posed a serious threat to public health.
He added that this action by the Public Health Directorate was carried out to enforce health standards and protect the health of the population.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Health released this statement at a time when similar medicines and food items had previously been collected and destroyed in several other provinces.
