The Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce says that the annual trade volume between Afghanistan and Iran has reached $3.6 billion, making Iran Afghanistan’s largest trading partner.
Mohammad Asif Elias, spokesperson for the ministry, said that after the closure of trade routes through Pakistan, Afghan traders increasingly turned toward Iran, which has resulted in expanded commercial exchanges between the two countries.
According to him, Afghanistan exports precious stones, dried fruits, agricultural products, non-alcoholic beverages, coal, and plant-based products to Iran, while importing fuel, food and industrial goods, raw materials, carpets, iron, and other essential commodities from Iran.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce further says that Afghanistan currently conducts trade with around 100 countries and continues its efforts to establish economic balance.
