Afghanistan’s Acting Minister of Economy, Din Mohammad Hanif, has said during a meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Bruno Lemarquis, that Afghanistan requires continued support from the international community due to the need to rebuild economic infrastructure, address climate change, cope with recurring droughts, respond to natural disasters, support returning migrants, and tackle poverty and unemployment.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s Ministry of Economy, Hanif called on the United Nations to pay greater attention to programs focused on employment generation, local economic development, agriculture, water resource management, energy, technical education, and capacity-building initiatives.
Meanwhile, UNAMA chief Bruno Lemarquis said that the United Nations would continue its cooperation with the Afghan people in the areas of humanitarian assistance and development support. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination, mobilizing additional resources, and ensuring the continuation of aid efforts to help improve the economic and living conditions of the people of Afghanistan.
