Local sources in Herat Province report that Mohammad Ismail, the brother of Mawlawi Ghulam Haider Shahemat, head of the Taliban’s Technical and Vocational Education Authority, was killed in an armed attack.
According to these sources, the incident took place last night in the Kushk-e Kohna district of Herat Province, along the Herat–Islam Qala highway. No further details have yet been released regarding the circumstances of the attack or the identity of those responsible.
Taliban authorities have not issued any official statement on the incident at the time of this report, and no information is available regarding the motive or broader context of the attack.
Mawlawi Ghulam Haider Shahemat is considered one of the well-known Taliban figures in Herat Province. Local sources say he is originally from Kushk-e Kohna district and has been involved in Taliban activities in the border areas of Herat with Iran in recent years.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, and investigations are ongoing.
