The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) announced on Saturday that at least two Taliban members were killed in an attack targeting a Taliban patrol vehicle in the Band-e Pashdan area of Herat city. The front claimed that those killed were officers of the First Brigade of the Al-Farooq Corps. The Taliban has not yet responded to the claim.
In a statement, the National Resistance Front said the attack was carried out at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday night in the Band-e Pashdan area. According to the statement, none of the NRF fighters were harmed during the operation, and they left the area after carrying out the attack.
Earlier, local sources in Herat told Afghanistan International that sporadic gunfire was heard in the Band-e Pashdan area on Thursday night. However, no official source has so far released further details about the incident.
Anti-Taliban military fronts have reported an increase in their attacks across various parts of Afghanistan in recent weeks. The National Resistance Front had previously announced, on 5 Asad (July 27), that it had attacked a Taliban outpost in Kiran wa Manjan district of Badakhshan province.
As of the publication of this report, the Taliban has not commented on the alleged attack in Herat or provided any information regarding possible casualties among its forces. The claims made so far have not been independently verified.
