According to reports from U.S. media, Washington is considering the use of the hypersonic missile “Dark Eagle” against targets in Iran.
Reports indicate that the U.S. military is looking to target Iran’s ballistic missile launch sites, which are located deep within the country’s territory, making them harder to access with conventional weapons.
According to sources, these sites have a range beyond that of missiles known as “precision strike,” which is why the use of more advanced weapons has been considered.
If this plan is approved, it will be the first time the United States uses a hypersonic weapon in an operational capacity, especially considering that the U.S. is perceived to be behind Russia and China in this domain.
The “Dark Eagle” missile has been in development since 2017, but the project has faced numerous challenges and failures.
Reports state that since 2021, despite over $700 million in allocated funding, at least five tests of this missile have failed.
So far, U.S. officials have not publicly commented on these reports.
