Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed a significant defense agreement on Friday, 16 Asad, in the city of Mecca. The agreement was signed by Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia; Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Türkiye; and Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The official Saudi Press Agency reported that the agreement is based on the historical relations, longstanding ties, brotherhood, Islamic solidarity, and shared strategic interests among the three countries.
According to the report, the new agreement reflects the commitment of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan to strengthening collective security and joint cooperation in support of peace, stability, and security in the region and beyond.
The agreement states that its primary objective is to strengthen joint deterrence against any act of aggression. It also stipulates that an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all three.
The agreement establishes a framework for expanding defense cooperation across various sectors among Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan, providing a basis for greater security and military coordination among the three countries.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the agreement was signed to enhance collective deterrence capabilities against potential threats and emphasized the principle of mutual defense among the three countries.
The agreement was signed at a time when Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan are facing a range of security challenges and broader regional developments.
The full details of the agreement have not yet been made public. However, Turkish and Pakistani officials had previously stated that the document would cover defense cooperation and related areas.
A Turkish security official had also previously said that the agreement would be finalized during a trilateral meeting of the leaders of the three countries in Saudi Arabia.
