U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized the Senate’s approval of a resolution aimed at restricting military action against the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the move as one that strengthens Iran’s position. His remarks were made in a post published on the social media platform Truth Social.
In his statement, Trump claimed that Iran had reached a point where it was prepared to accept U.S. demands and, according to him, was treating the United States and its president with unprecedented respect for the first time in decades. He further asserted that Tehran was on the verge of defeat and was ready to offer significant concessions to Washington.
The U.S. president characterized the passage of the resolution as a misguided decision at a critical moment, arguing that the Senate’s vote on the War Powers Resolution sent a message to Iran that Washington does not fully support his administration’s actions.
Trump also stated that the decision had made it more difficult to pursue his policies toward the Islamic Republic, but emphasized that he would achieve his objectives regardless of the obstacles. He additionally criticized the four Republican senators who voted in favor of the measure.
The remarks came after the U.S. Senate, despite being controlled by a Republican majority, passed a resolution on Tuesday, June 23, calling for an end to U.S. military action against the Islamic Republic of Iran without explicit authorization from Congress.
The measure had previously been approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. Its passage comes at a time when Tehran and Washington are pursuing peace negotiations, while the United States has also taken steps such as suspending certain oil-related sanctions on Iran.
