The Wall Street Journal, citing informed U.S. officials, reported that Trump expressed anger over the leak of classified information related to the war with the Islamic Republic and has asked the Department of Justice to pursue these cases more aggressively.
According to people familiar with the requests, prosecutors in recent months have issued subpoenas to media outlets as well as email and phone service providers as part of investigations into the disclosures.
Officials said that last month Trump was particularly angry about an April 7 article in The New York Times that detailed how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had encouraged Trump to bomb Iran. The report provided clear details of senior officials’ meetings on the matter, including sessions in the classified Situation Room.
